Dear Team Member,

As per the SMWCRT calendar, 2 weeks Saturday (1st Oct) is the SWSARA Joint Exercise. It's our turn to organise this annual event, where the four South Wales Mountain Rescue teams and ourselves train together. It is a rare opportunity to work with our MR colleagues.

The details of the exercise are as follows :-

  • Where - Cwm Dwr car park, Penwyllt
  • When - Sat 1st Oct. Meet at 09:15 for a 09:30 start
  • Plan for the day :-
    • Briefing 09:30
    • Morning session - 09:45 to 12:45
    • Afternoon session - 13:15 to 16:15
    • De-brief - 16:30
  • Participants choose a morning & an afternoon session, from the following :-
    • The Party Quarry is turned into a sea cliff with a climbing scenario - A technical scenario potentially involving a Larkin frame.
    • A surface search behind the club.
    • A stretcher carry out of OFD 1, including the entrance pitch.
    • Potentially a 4th scenario if numbers warrant it.
  • What to bring :-
    • Come equipped for above ground, below ground and potentially vertical work, to keep you options open.
    • Food and drink.
    • Check the weather forecast and dress accordingly.
    • Hot drinks will be available in the Cwm Dwr car park throughout the day.

This will be a very interesting, different and therefore enjoyable day, so please participate if you can. Due to us organising the exercise we will require volunteers to help run the day. If we have plenty of volunteers, then we should each be able to help run one session and participate in the other. I anticipate us requiring a minimum of 15 cave rescuers to run the day, but ideally we need > 25 team members.

Therefore, it is more important than normal for you email me [This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. ]and let me know that you can attend. Please also let me know if there is anything you particularly want or don't want to do. Further details will follow a week before the exercise and I may email individuals directly to organise specific roles.
