South & Mid Wales Cave Rescue Team were asked to assist by our friends Longtown Mountain Rescue Team in the search for Carla, a black Labrador dog that went missing on Wednesday at Varteg Mountain in Torfaen, Gwent. She was located, having fallen down a deep narrow geological rift. One of our Team was able to climb down the very claustrophobic, constricted rift and secure Carla who was brought safely to the surface and reunited with a very thankful owner. Another job well done!

You can see more information on the rescue from the article in The South Wales Argus. The two images were taken by Longtown Mountain Rescue Team.

This is our second dog rescue in a month, and it goes to show how important it is for our Team (we are a volunteer Search & Rescue Team made up of cavers and ready to respond to incidents, whatever they might be) to be able to maintain its equipment in a state of constant readiness, all of which costs money. Our recent Equipment Modernisation Appeal is about to end, but there is still an opportunity for people to donate to us by clicking on the donate button at the top of the page. Any amount donated really helps us.

Diolch yn Fawr/ Thanks a Lot.
