With your help we did it!

The SMWCRT Equipment Modernisation Appeal has officially closed today reaching a staggering £17,168.  Over the last 8 weeks our supporters have generously donated, meaning we smashed our original target of £15,160! That is simply amazing, and we thank all that have given so generously. The donations have come from all corners of the globe, from the caving community, from those that have never ventured underground, from grant funders, from businesses, from clubs, and from individuals.

This money is already being to put to good use:

  • We have ordered 5 new stretchers for the team.
  • We have purchased sufficient PPE supplies to cover us for at least the next six months.
  • We are ordering a complete set of new digital radios, to equip our surface teams, our control locations and our vehicle. The surface radios will allow us to track the movement of team members via built in GPS systems, they have greater range and better clarity of transmission over our current sets.
  • We are also using the funds to purchase a ‘mobile’ digital control set up that will allow us to ‘control’ an incident from more remote locations, allowing us to get closer to the scene of the call out.

This would not have been possible without the donations received. So once again ‘Thank You’.

Any remaining donations will be transferred to our vehicle replacement fund. One of the most vital pieces of kit in our stores! We plan to replace our vehicle about every ten years, and we start saving up from the moment we manage to purchase a new one.  Our current Landrover Defender is almost 8 years old and cost us over £36,000 to buy – we expect our next vehicle to cost in the region of £48,000 and that’s a lot of money to raise for a team that has to rely entirely on fundraising.  For that reason we will continue to accept any donation, large or small – you can click ‘donate’ at the top of this page.
