At 12:02 on Monday 1st March a request was raised via Central Beacons MRT to attend an incident involving two dogs lost underground on the Mountain, north of Dowlais Top.
The site involved a 3km walk to a shakehole with a sink at the side where the dogs had been lost.
Over four days, teams of between 5 and 9 rescuers attended the scene each day and in difficult circumstances due to poor weather at times and confined digging conditions, we were able to rescue one of the dogs. Unfortunately, the second dog could not be found, despite considerable effort and the use of a remote camera system.
19 people participated in the rescue on the ground with Control Support from 4 team members. The rescue was active for 33 hours over the 4 days.
