Who’s a good boy? – Reggie is!

A busy start to the year for our Team with our fourth rescue of 2022 being a tricky one.

After 34 hours stuck at the bottom of a 10-meter rift, Reggie is back safely with his owners.

He fell down the hidden void around 3pm on Tuesday whilst out for a walk on Llwynypia Mountain, near Tonypandy in the South Wales Valleys.

Our team worked with South Wales Fire and Rescue Service on Tuesday and Wednesday late into the nights, in an attempt to dig, squeeze and “fish” poor Reggie out.

Early this morning, after our team had gone home to rest, Reggie was finally fished out by the skilled team at Drainforce using their drain survey camera.

A huge thanks must go to Harry and Neil at Drain Force Ltd. and to the local community that rallied their support with man power, tools, food from The Chip Stop and offers of heavy digging machinery should we need it.

The site still needs to be made safe to prevent any more dogs from unexpectedly dropping in, and we have a lot of muddy kit to clean and be ready for the next rescue.

South & Mid Wales Cave Rescue Team is a voluntary organisation providing assistance to people and animals in need underground. The Team relies on the donations from members of the public to fund our essential life-saving rescue service.
